We’re big believers in giving back at The Bay Fish and Chips, which is why we launched our community fundraising initiative in 2020.
We’re donating every 20p bag charge we receive for online orders at The Bay Fish and Chips to charity or local groups.
Thank you to everyone who nominated charities, community groups or causes that would benefit from the donations we will be working our way through this list.
In June, we have worked hard to raise £375 for the Horizon Group in Stonehaven. They are an amazing voluntary group who aim to improve Stonehaven town, making it a better place to work and live in for the local community. Through their donations, they are able to help the community through maintaining floral displays; working with school eco-groups and reducing the amount of litter in the town – which is something we strive towards in protecting the environment here at The Bay.
A huge thank you to everyone that helped us along the way.

During May we have also been working hard to raise £430 for SAMH – Scotland’s Mental
Health – a wonderful charity that provides resources for people with mental
health problems. They’re also committed to helping bring about change in
Scotland and the UK in four main policy areas: Access to Services, Support
and Treatment, Work and Finances, Rights and Promoting Good Mental Health.

In April, we raised a fantastic £600 for the MS Trust, when Calum and his wife Viktorija took part in ‘Miles for MS’ in honour of Calum’s sister who has been living with MS for the past 15 years. The walk took place on 18th April and spanned an impressive 96 miles with camping along the way! For more information, please take a look at our blog, where Calum talks about why he decided to take part and what health and wellbeing means to him: https://bit.ly/3wulLxa
The MS Trust itself is an amazing charity that is committed to ensuring everyone with Multiple Sclerosis can access the treatments and services they need and deserve. There is also a real focus on ensuring that all voices and viewpoints are heard, so that everyone who needs their services and support – including Black, Asian and minority ethnic people, LGBTQ+ people, and people living with disabilities has the help they need. In February and March through our 10p bag donations, as well as our Whiskey Auction we raised an incredible £2,500! All proceeds went to Finlay’s Fund, which is dedicated to supporting Finlay Sangster and his family overcome the challenges of Cerebral Palsy.
A huge thank you to everyone that helped us achieve this and to the Outlander cast whose whiskey auction donations were a massive help for Finlay and his family.
To start the new year off, we raised £260 for Doddie Charity. This charity was founded by Doddie Weird OBE, one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities. Doddie was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND) in 2017, and since then he has been driven to help fellow sufferers.
The charity supports those who are suffering from the disease. However, most of the funds raised for the charity are invested into research around MND, in the hopes a cure can be, as it is currently an incurable. For more information, please visit: https://www.myname5doddie.co.uk/
To round off the year, we raised £200 for The Haven Community Larder in Stonehaven. They focus on helping the vulnerable by providing public access to food and toiletries with no questions asked. They operate similar to a food bank but are far from it. They’re open to everyone, giving people the ability to choose what they need with no referral required.
A massive thank you to everyone who helped us along the way.
Across three months, we dedicated our fundraising efforts to Befriend a Child’s Christmas Tree Appeal. The Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire charity ensure that the children have presents to open on Christmas morning and adventures to look forward to in 2022.
We’re thrilled to have raised an incredible £500 with the help of your 10p bag donations. Thank you to all of you who helped us give the gift of a memorable Christmas to the children.
In July and August, we raised a brilliant £650 for Stonehaven and District Men’s Shed with our 10p bag donations.
They are an independent organisation run by a group of volunteers who are doing great work in the community and we’re extremely pleased to be able to support them.
The Friends of Stonehaven is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation that relies on fundraising to be able to maintain, enhance and promote Stonehaven’s Open Air Swimming Pool.
In June, we raised an amazing £420 for the organisation which will help them to keep the Pool looking its best each season and to ensure its long-term future.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
In May, together we raised a fantastic £520 for Finlay’s fund with our 10p bag donations.
Finlay’s Fund aims to provide financial support to Finlay Sangster who was born with Cerebral Palsy to ensure he has the best therapy and equipment to make daily life more accessible.
Thank you for all of your orders. We’re over the moon to be able to support such a fantastic cause.
The Stonehaven RNLI relies on donations to continue saving lives at sea and in April, we raised a fantastic £360.
Thank you to everyone who ordered for The Bay this month, we’re pleased to be able to support such an important charity.
During March we raised £320 for Stonehaven Sea Cadets from our 10p bag charges.
The Sea Cadets aim to: “give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be in a safe and friendly environment.” We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible.
In February, we raised money for the Stonehaven Horizon Group, who aim to make Stonehaven a better place to live and work in.
The group provides and maintains the town’s many floral displays, works with school eco groups, and organises regular community litter picks. With your help, we managed to raise a fantastic total of £200.
During January 2021, we donated £350 to Doddie’s Aid and took part in the Doddie Gump challenge with Calum pledging to walk 250 miles to raise funds for the cause.
During December, we selected Kincardine & Deeside Befriending to raise funds for their great initiative to support vulnerable, elderly people who live alone.
Thanks to everyone who ordered from The Bay, during the month we were able to raise an amazing £260.
In our first month following the launch of our community fundraising initiative, we supported Befriend a Child. The charity provides children and young people across Aberdeenshire with the opportunity to experience new and fun activities they would otherwise not be able to take part in due to circumstances beyond their control.
Overall, during November with your support we raised an incredible £397.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helps us with this fundraising initiative, it is sure to make a big difference to our local community.
Keep checking back, as each month we will update this article with how much our community fundraising has raised.
