Our Fairtrade promise: Food that’s not just good for you, but good for others too.

As consumers, we have a lot of power to create real change. We can make our world a better, fairer, and more ethical place by making the right buying choices.

At The Bay Fish and Chips, we’re conscious of our environmental impact, so we strive to use Fairtrade products wherever possible, giving our customers the confidence to come to us and promote change.

For those unsure on what Fairtrade means, this blog will give an insight into Fairtrade, what it means to us, and how we’re implementing it into our day-to-day trading to do our bit for the planet.

What does Fairtrade mean?

Fairtrade is a global sustainable organisation that works with farmers, workers, and businesses to ensure a certain set of standards are upheld in the production and supply of a product or ingredient.

Choosing Fairtrade is standing with farmers and workers for fairness and equality as we face some of the biggest challenges in the world.

So what does Fairtrade mean for those affected? Better and safer working conditions, and more fair pay for farmers and workers, and high-quality, ethically produced goods for consumers.

Through choosing and supporting Fairtrade products, we’re showing that we believe in fair and just trade.

The importance of Fairtrade to The Bay

It’s no secret that we’re passionate about the environment and actively working towards a greener future. To us, what Fairtrade means is that our ingredients are treated with care, as well as every person and staff member we work alongside, is treated fairly too.

Our products

We aim to use Fairtrade products wherever possible, which is why the majority of our externally sourced dry goods are Fairtrade. We use coffee, sugar, tea, condiments, and spices. We believe it’s so important that we look after not only the environment but the people within it. We have to support the businesses that support the earth in order to make an impact and feel good about the change we’re striving to make.

What we think

At The Bay Fish and Chips, we believe as many people as possible should be buying either Fairtrade or products with a reputable badge of honour. This way, we can be part of the change in helping the workers in the developing world.

Although we’re passionate about Fairtrade produce, we’re also great believers that products have to fit your business and therefore you cannot have ingredients only for their badge. The best step forward for your business is to gage what products you’re currently using and create an understanding of what products you can swap out for Fairtrade, without making any compromise on your business.

Food for thought

We must remember that there are many amazing businesses that produce excellent products but do not want to be taken in by corporations, therefore they do not apply the Fairtrade or similar symbol to their products. However, keep in mind that just because you buy something from a local store doesn’t mean it was made locally, so do your research.

We hope this has helped create a greater understanding of what Fairtrade is and how important it is to us. Learn more about our produce and sustainability promise and be part of the change when you order from us.
